TECHNOLOGY TRACKER
(What is going on in the Computer Lab?)
for the Month of February

Kindergarten students are exploring phonemic skills in computer this month as they match short & long vowel sounds with their corresponding pictures. Students will also use vowel sounds to build words using long and short vowels.

First Grade students have just completed a unit on Arctic and Antarctic Animals. Students took a virtual trip to both the North and South Poles taking pictures of the inhabitants and discovering the predator and prey relationship. Students will now venture from the tundra into the grasslands as we explore the Australian Grasslands, Great Plains and Serengeti and draw comparisons.

Second Graders have been reinforcing their math skills and are now enhancing their grammar skills using a variety of interactive programs.

Third Grade students are becoming the SCCS Young Poets Group as they define and practice writing and typing rhymes and alliteration in a poem format. Watch for some of their poems to be on the school website towards the end of the month.

Fourth Graders enhanced their creativity and mouse drawing skills as they defined compound words and designed compound word artwork. This month their fingers will be busy as we return to keyboarding using the home-row positioning and keyboard covers.

Fifth Grade students are learning a little bit about poster design & format while discovering different advertising strategies. Students will put their learning to the test as they create an effective poster incorporating design, format and different advertising techniques to sell their book.

Sixth Grade students finished a unit on spreadsheets and databases and now are entering the career world. They are exploring their likes and dislikes, possible careers and the work tasks, educational classes and degrees needed, and career predictions. This unit is meant to stimulate student work ethics and provide a link between classes taken now and in high school to future career and job skill opportunities.
