from Mrs. Corky Thomas:…. and what life there is! Talk about abundance! Our spring rains and warm weather have caused rapid growth and lots of color already this spring. Gardens are never “done”, however. They require constant and loving maintenance and that translates to “helping hands”.
If you have been near or in the school garden recently you may have noticed a few changes other than that which comes naturally to plants. A low spot on one of the paths has now been corrected, some bushes have been pruned, and planting and watering have been done. Who does this?
Occasionally it is necessary to pay for plants and materials as well as some labor.
We have been fortunate throughout the life of our school garden, however, to have been able to keep these costs at a minimum. Volunteers and helpers come in many ways. The Eagle Scouts and their projects were the initial (and on-going) builders. The school maintenance crew keeps grass cut and sprinklers in working order. Quiet neighbors and voluntary helpers watch and trim. Many, many, 5th grade students, their parents and teachers have contributed their time and energy during spring clean-up and plant sales. Recently Schifsky Landscaping donated their time to help with some stonework in the garden. Our Carnival plant sale last month was quite successful and the money collected helps keep the school garden green and growing.
We can never have too much help. Please consider volunteering to help keep the garden growing in all the ways it can. Donations are also quite welcome. No garden is complete without a tender’s loving service. Would you like to help? Do you need more information?
A peaceful place to rest on a beautiful day!
A group of parents and students helped this spring.
