Primary Grades Music Marathon

(Monday, October 11, 2010) Our kindergarten, first and second graders performed a music program for the residents of Linden Healthcare Center. Each class sang four to five songs, led by our very talented Ms. Kaup. The music selections were terrific, including old favorites and several new selections. At one point, a few of the residents were singing and clapping along! Prior to their performance, each student created a special piece of artwork that was hung up at the nursing home. The residents, as well as the employees, were very thankful for our students’ creativity! Congratulations to our primary students for a job well done.

Middle Schoolers Help To Feed The Hungry at Feed My Starving Children

(Tuesday, October 6, 2009 and Thursday, October 8, 2009) The SCCS sixth, seventh and eighth grade students visited Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Eagan as their Marathon service project. There they learned about the needy children in countries all over the world that will go to great lengths to feel full, sometimes even eating dirt, hoping to stave off the hunger pangs. These children are now being fed nutritious meals twice a day, thanks to the efforts of FMSC.

On Tuesday, October 6, our 65 student, parent, and teacher volunteers prepared 66 boxes of food which contained 14,256 meals. This shipment will go to either Haiti or Kenya in the next week and feed 39 children for an entire year!  Everyone worked very hard and had a great time jamming to the music and competing with each other to pack the most food.

On Thursday, October 8, our 7th and 8th grade students and parent and teacher volunteers packed exactly the same amount of food as Tuesday's group - 66 boxes, enough for 39 children for 1 year. Both days

Intermediate Students Clean Up St. Michael's Cemetery

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes spent an afternoon at St. Michael's Cemetery in Bayport, cleaning off gravestones and picking up rocks, sticks, and branches. Father Kasel, from St. Charles Church in Bayport, met, instructed, and prayed with the students as they began their clean-up work. As they worked, the students noticed the names, dates, and length of life of those buried in the cemetery. The students also prayed for all those who are buried there.
