St. Croix Catholic School is pleased to announce the completion of its 2008 Service Marathon. The students, teachers and parent volunteers extended an estimated 850 service hours to the local community and raised nearly $91,000.
The annual SCCS Service Marathon challenges all students of St. Croix Catholic School, kindergarten through eighth grade to meet a $250 per student goal. Students ask community members for donations in honor of their service work. The donations collected by the students go directly to the school’s operating budget and are tax-deductible. Thank you to all in our community who have supported St. Croix Catholic students!
The Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade classes walked to the Linden Healthcare Center with the school's music teacher, Diane May, and sang many joyful songs for the elderly. They also made colorful pictures to decorate the center.
The Third, Fourth and Fifth grade classes spent an afternoon at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Bayport, cleaning off gravestones, and picking up rocks, sticks and branches. Reverend Randal Kasel, pastor of St. Charles Catholic Church in Bayport, instructed and blessed the students as they began their clean-up work. As they worked, the students noticed the names, dates, and length of life of those buried at the cemetery, and prayed for the departed.
The Middle School Students spent hours making warm blankets, scarves, hats and mittens for those in our Stillwater Community in need. These items were blessed at an all school Mass and were distributed to many local homes in need.
