Trimester 1 Overview for Grade 5

Students will review policies and procedures for proper use of equipment and being online.

Students will examine and identify online requests for private information and apply Internet safety rules. Discuss positive uses of Email and identify strategies for dealing with Spam and unwanted messages. Examine cyber bullying and the roles and responsibilities of bystanders. Make appropriate ethical choices about using materials on the Internet.

Students will also receive time to practice their typing, math, science, reading and language arts skills.

Trimester 1 Overview for Grade 4

Discuss the "Rules of The Road" for computer usage & proper care of computer equipment and respect for other users.

Continue to develop computer literacy terminology.

Find web pages using entering web addresses, links or doing searches.

This trimester students will focus on keyboard finger placement, ergonomics and accuracy. Students will practice typing using a keyboard program and by typing while reviewing site words for grade 4.

Word Processing - Review - delete, copy, cut and paste text to edit work, while practicing proofreading skills in capitalization, grammar and punctuation.

Students will create "rules of the road" for the Internet and share them with their parents. These rules include: getting permission from a parent, what information can be shared (public versus private information), rules for respect of property (information and equipment) and learn to search a web site dictionary for keywords.

Students begin keyboarding with the home-row using proper finger placement.

Students will also receive time to practice their typing, math, science, reading and language arts skills.

Introduction to the world of technology and inventions as they focus on why inventions are developed and the scientific process. (Thomas Edison).

Explore the design process and create an invention.

Computer Basics explore windows - resize, move, open and close windows.

Grammar - practice using capital letters and periods activity

Writing - understand how word order can affect meaning - practice-placing words in their proper order to make sense of a sentence.

Math - Practice skip counting by 2, 5,10, addition and subtraction facts.

Trimester 1 Overview for Grade 1

Become familiar with the "Rules of The Road" for computer usage & care of computer equipment and respect for other users.

Computer Basics - Mouse usage point, click and drag. Home Keys practice.

Internet Safety basics - parent permission, private and public information.

Explore the Internet - videos and pictures - watch a video about sea turtles use the open, play, stop and close buttons.

Practice using the paintbrush tool and color palette, print.

Participate in an online scavenger hunt using a picture dictionary.

Science - explore the parts of a sunflower plant and learn about plant growth.

Math- Practice basic addition facts.

Language Arts - ABC Order, Capitalization and periods, Phonics - beginning and ending sounds, Comprehension - Main Idea.


Trimester 1 Overview for Kindergarten

Become familiar with the "Rules of The Road" for computer usage & proper care of computer equipment and respect for other users.

Name the parts of a computer.

Apply the basics of the keyboard & mouse navigation & terminology.

Enter simple data into a word processing document by listening and following directions.

Use the paintbrush tool to create pictures.

Look at web pages and discover how they help us find interesting information.

Students will be reinforcing their letter recognition and sound identification skills, colors and shapes, counting to 10, number correspondence and ordering through interactive activities.
